Who Pays For What?
Here is the traditional list that wedding teams have looked to for decades upon decades when trying to find the rules of who pays. Of course, like today’s couples, you can decide to personalize this list and let anyone pay for the portion they can or want to cover. I’ve included it here to get you thinking…in a few pages, you’ll be able to customize your wedding budget.
The Bride Pays For:

- The bridesmaids’ gifts and Maid of Honor gift
- Medical examination and blood test for the marriage license, as required by the state
- Stationery for after the wedding
The Groom Pays For:

- The bride’s wedding gift
- His own tuxedo, shoes, accessories, or other wedding day wardrobe
- Gifts for his ushers, groomsmen, and Best Man

- Corsages for the mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, and other honored women
- Boutonnieres for male wedding party members and fathers

- Bridal brunch on the morning of the wedding

The Groom’s Family Pays For:
- Rehearsal expenses

- Travel and lodging for groom’s family members (optional)
- Special sentimental items: unity candle, toasting flutes, ring pillow, etc.
- Taxes and tips
The Attendants Pay For:
- Wedding wardrobe and accessories
- Fittings and alterations
- Wedding day salon trip for hair, nails, etc.
- Their own travel and lodging expenses (if not complimentary)
- Wedding gifts for bride and groom
- Showers
- Bachelor or bachelorette parties
The Bride and Groom Pay For:
- Gifts for wedding party and parents
- Gifts for all that helped with the wedding
- Extra expenses not covered by the parents’ budget
